A Wonderful Little Big Hotel

A little apprehensive about our first stay at an all inclusive, and tired from our two weeks of hiking ans sightseeing our way across Bulgaria, we were relieved when we final pulled up to the hotel. Although large and busy, it was actually quiet and unassuming.

The reception staff were polite and immediately dismissed our worries about our room not being ready by telling us that we were allowed to go straight for drinks and that the afternoon snacks were soon to be served. When we returned for our key the bellboy was quiet and apologetic for our wait as he helped us with our bags.

Our room was bright and airy with a fantastic air-conditioning unit (almost essential in this area of the world during the summer it seems) and a fabulous balcony which was always sun in the last sun of the day. This allowed our room to be a relaxing haven to take us from daytime wanders and pool time to evening fun.

To be honest, Golden Sands is a rather expensive place for a Bulgarian town. In fact prices at some restaurants approach those of restaurants back home. This meant that being all-inclusive at the hotel was a god-send as it hadn't actually been a particularly expensive option. The food offered was always simple, bountiful and tasty - salads, Bulgarian dishes, soups etc. It did become a little wearisome towards the end of our week as the menu didn't chance too greatly but we were never hungry, and any time we fancied something different we were able to head to the strip to find somewhere else. Three square meals were offered each day, buffet style, and an additional snack was available mid afternoon which was perfect for wandering back in to after a day enjoying the beach.

The bar served Bulgarian versions of branded drinks - like a Bulgarian version of Baileys etc - and served them throughout most of the day without enforcing a limit or complaining. In fact, with the range they were actually able to make us an array cocktails which was always a good prelude to a night out or simply a great addition to a day lounging by the pool.

The pool at Hotel Central is small and simple, but a little sun trap which caught good sun throughout the day allowing for a relatively tranquil place to relax for the day. In fact, at times it was a wonderful diversion from the dizzyingly busy beach. And the staff were generally pleasant and polite.

Admittedly, the hotel is about 500 metres from the beachfront, or further if you rather take the winding road than the steepish steps. However, there is so much that is right about Hotel Central that this is a minor issue really. Most families we saw seemed perfectly happy with the distance. We both had a great time at the hotel and would definitely recommend it to others.
