My Name Is Silvia, I'm 3rd Year Ba (hons) Internat

My name is Silvia, I'm 3rd Year BA (Hons) International Finance.

After completing my I year at ESE I knew exactly where I wanted to go; I wanted to pursue career in Investment Banking. This became a passion, if not an obsession for me. I decided to find out more about the industry and how I could land myself with an internship at an Investment Bank or an institution that would give me the insights about working in one. Speaking to someone that without whose guidance I wouldn't have been able to achieve what I have now, things became much clearer.

She advised me to read a couple of finance books and various business related newspapers, as well as use other information sources in order to better educate and enlighten myself about the sector. In addition, it was no surprise to me that most people advised me to go to London. Upon completion of my III year studies at ESE Milan, I contacted two workers from the London ESE internship office and explained my desire to do my internship in the city. They were both extremely helpful; I had an immediate response from them and a couple of scheduled interviews with several firms, among which Private Equity and Wealth Management ones. I had several offers to choose from, however in the end I decided to join a boutique Executive Search firm that specializes in Risk Management and Operational Risk in Investment Banking. My rationalization to accept the position as a Research Associate derives from the recent turmoil in the financial markets. The credit crunch affected a lot of banks and institutions and thus, I chose to wait and observe the events from a distance. As an intern my duties and responsibilities include proactive research for professionals who best meet our clients 'requirements, arranging and conducting interviews with both clients and candidates, attending seminars, and searching for new business propositions. I still keep in touch with the staff from Milan and London internship offices and would like to express my great appreciation to them for their continuous support and assistance.
