Nearly 5 Stars

The Jurys Inn hotel in Prague could nearly have been given five stars; just a couple of things that we were not happy about. The hotel had been booked as part of a deal with Jet2 Holidays. We arrived in the early evening, after along day, and checking in looked to be straightforward. However, I was not happy at being asked to leave credit card details - I was told this was to cover for possible use of the mini bar in the room. I said I was not going to be using a credit card, so was then asked to leave a cash deposit: when I refused to do this I was told the mini bar would be emptied, which I agreed with!

Having taken the lift to the right floor I was a little disappointed with the rather dingy looking corridors - obviously an energy saving hotel as only every third light was in use. The room was fairly basic, but was very clean, the bathroom being immaculate.

As it was late we decided to eat in the hotel, and had an excellent meal at a very reasonable price. Drinks at the bar were also cheaper than expected for an hotel.

The second thing that somewhat spoiled the hotel was the air conditioning system - not so much the normal room part, but the extractor part that serviced the bathroom. This ran all night, and despite having the bathroom door closed it could still be heard. When pointed out to staff they gave a number of reasons, could not do anything as it was a sunday, and said all the rooms were of the same standard, which wasn`t quite true.I did eventually adjust the outlet to reduce the noise to an acceptable level.

Having said all this, the breakfast choice was great, with both cooked and Continental foods available. Very good lunchtime menu, with 3 course meal for around £4 - beer around £1 and glass of wine around £2.

Staff all very friendly, and other for the slight problem on checking in, very helpful. Hotel also has its own taxi, again prices very reasonable.

Lounge and bar areas have televisions, and are comfortable and pleasant.

All in all, a very good hotel, handy for metro station and trams which are right outside if you wanted to use them. We walked into the old town, which was about a 10 minute stroll.

I would recommend this hotel as being as good as you would find outside of a 5 star hotel.
