M.a.r.s. (motorized Attack Robo Squad): If You Hap

M.A.R.S. (Motorized Attack Robo Squad): If you happen to be in the toy isle at Wal-Mart (the only place I've seen these offered in Michigan) you may notice a little stack of interesting window boxes with the word M.A.R.S. emblazoned across the front and a shiny robot suspended inside. On pressing the small "try me" button on the robot's chest, you would see its eyes light up and its arms and legs pumping away as if he's walking while his head turns side to side. You them might notice the price of $4.88 printed on the box itself. Please resist the urge to throw this item back out of hand based on the cheap price. What you have here is a surprisingly well put together little robot. Once unleashed from the box, you'll find that the robot walks smoothly, without the stumbling, awkward gait prevelent on most walking toys, and the motor itself purrs quietly, rather than gnashing and grinding. The paint job is very well applied in that no lines were crossed and the overall application is very well done, glossy in some places, matte in others. The paint is also strong, and free from globs or imperfections. The arms are poseable, can be raised or lowered at the shoulder, and the elbows can be moved as well. This works well with the alternating motorized raise/lower action of the arms. The eyes flash via a red LED and the head turns side to side as if scanning for enemies. If that was not enough, the robot includes an arsenal of three weapons, which are interchangable between his hand and his two shoulder mounts. There are four M.A.R.S. robot styles available, each unique with very little recycled parts between them. Each head is totally unique and gives each robot a personality all its own. One can play with these robots immediately from the box in that the manufacturer was kind enough to include batteries. At $4.88 a piece, you can pick up all four robots for just under $20...a nice complete set for a kid who digs robots or for a collector (they display well in their boxes). The manufacturer once again distributes a top knotch product at a modest price. Please read my forthcoming review of their Super Fighter Robot!
