We Appear To Have Been Lucky
My son purchased one of these around 10 years ago and has not had any problems whatsoever.
we were impressed that we also bought one that was around 18 months old. After about 4years we had the problem with the icing up and i found a hack online that involved putting a piece of wire through the drain hole and this sat on the compressor. the wire takes a little heat and stops the hole from icing up. This seemed to work for about 6 years however the problem has returned and i think it could be time to splash the cash.
I think its done alright for 11 years old but i wont be buying another hotpoint after reading these reviews.

Rusty Box Of Rubbish
Unit is 2.5 years old, but only gets used for 8 weeks a year,
both doors started to pit a rust, within 13 months, Hotpoint refused
to accept their was a build quality issue, even though they were sent pictures, and only the doors are affected.
Unit started to fail last week, and then stopped cooling, just when we needed it the most.
Utter pile of Cxxp.
Have been a solid Hotpoint purchaser, Hotpoint don't want to know.
Time to change, will never buy Hotpoint again after this.
Poor Quality Materials
Poor Build Quality
Poor Design and Engineering
Poor Customer Care

I have had the same experience only had my hotpoint fridge and separate freezer for 3yrs and the are both badly rusted on the doors, I haven't contacted hotpoint as they are out of warranty itsobvious that they were coated over the rust as its bubbling up from underneath the coating : (
What A Nightmare This Fridge Is!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This fridge is terrible keeps getting blocked with ice blocking the air ducts, there is a major design flaw with this fridge and surely couldn't of been tested for any length of time when it was designed as my fridge started blocking after a couple of months do not buy this fridge unless you like taking things to bits every month!!!

Rusty And Keeps Drip Hole In Fridge Keeps Blocking
I purchased a FFP1878 frost free 50/50 fridge freezer approx 7 years ago. the hole in the fridge where the water drains away gets blocked regularly and i have to put a bent metal barbeque kebab stick down the hole and poke it to unblock it. i did have an engineer come out and he said it was mould blocking the hole and drilled the hole bigger and put bleach down it!!!!! Also it has extensive rusting all round. i am reluctant to buy another Hotpoint
Exactly the dame with mine
The whole outside doors have become a rust bucket

This Freezer Is Unfit For Use
I have had one of these for three years FF200s and it is clear that it suffers from a major design fault
due to build up of ice behind the rear freezer panel which blocks the cold air to the fridge. The switch control that works the cold air flap to admit that air is also suspect. Having taken the thing to bits to clear it, there are serious deficiencies in build quality and electrical connector assembly standards.
It is made by INDESIT but my email to the chief exec. was ignored. Hotpoint 'help' are always busy [hardly surprising - busy means shortstaffed or swampwed by complaints]
DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM. I would not bother to get any repair done as it is design at fault.
I had mine less than 3 years 2yrs 8 months, and had 5 year part guarantee, but was told it cost £109 for enginer to come out, what a laugh, NO MORE HOTPOINT white goods for me

A Pile Of Rubbish!
Bought the Hotpoint about 2 years ago and until the last Christmas everything had been fine. The freezer compartment works ok, while the fridge is way too warm. Having read loads of posts on the Internet regarding the FF200 and it turns out that there is a huge block of ice behind the freezer panels. Tonight I'm going to borrow my wife's hairdryer and attack the iceberg. Wish I had researched the thing before we purchased it.
Unfortunately the whole operation needs to be repeated in a few months and so on.
No wonder why my parents paid a bit more a got an Electrolux and have enjoyed over 10ys faultless service
!
Not going to buy anything with Hotpoint/Indesit on them. Buy cheap(ish)-pay twice.
Had same problem. just gone through procedure again but this time have really tightened screws on back plate; this ensures air tight seal between back plates, allowing cold air to reach fridge from fan. As you look at back of freezer I've also put duct tape over top left outlet hole to freezer, this is hole between fan and air vent to fridge because my freezer was getting iced up and fridge was warm. only done this 2 days ago so early days yet. Now motor works for about 20 mins and silence for about an hour. bliss. Fridge is lovely and cold food in freezer is frozen. have both controls just below minimum. I've also put lots of take away containers in fridge so don't lose cold air with door open also to stop moisture from atmosphere reaching cooling element. hopefully this may help. Please monitor your freezer working ok if you use temperature settings that i have. good luck I'll let you know how mine goes.
Never Buying Hotpoint Again!
Purchased this fridge freezer about 4 years ago and I've never been happy with it. The runners for the 2nd freezer drawer have broken so the drawer gets stuck all the time, so now the front has snapped off the drawer from it being forced so much! I've also had the dreaded ice at the bottom problem for years, meaning it needs chipping out every few weeks and also keeps leaking on the kitchen floor. Yesterday it started beeping, so checked the manual and apparently the freezer temperature is too high, so now I'm going to take the back off to see if I have an iceberg to remove like so many of these reviews mention. I only came online to find a solution for my warm freezer, and I'm astounded how many people have the same problems!
Just for the record, I decked my whole kitchen out in Hotpoint, the washing machine lasted 2 years, the oven doors knackered and the display on the tumble drier flickers ( and I've had to have the back off that to repair it once already also). Moral of story DON'T BUY HOTPOINT!

Hi,
I had the same problem with a hotpoint freezer leaving water on the floor. It is caused by the rubber drain tube at the back (above the compressor) closing up causing the defrosted ice to run down the inside of the freezer. I cut it shorter and the freezer now works perfectly.
Hotpoint Ff200e
well what can i say....... the worst fridge freezer i have ever had. its not even 5 years old. the fridge constantly gets warm, the freezer fills with ice. i am constantly defrosting it with my wifes hairdrier. i have changed the defrost thermostat, the heating element, but still no joy. i have had a few infuriating conversations with hotpoint. apparently there is not a problem with the freezer. then they suggested changing the evap thermistor. but this is part of the compressor, and i have to buy the whole lot if i want it at a considerable cost. so i am going to get rid of it and get a different make and NEVER look at hotpoint again.
what i'm gonna say for a bad and rubbish fridge freezer hotpoint ff200e never ever i buy hotpoint again that's all what i say

Utter Rubbish
Had this poor excuse for a FrostFree fridge freezer for 5 years. The first 2 years were fine, it worked. Then the ice started to build up in the back. Now it requires chipping away every few weeks. This is no easy feat, as it requires completely removing the back interior of the freezer and attacking it with a hammer a chisel. I've given up screwing the back on now as it's too much hassle for not a lot of gain.
I contacted a local fridge repair firm and described the problem. They guessed it was a Hotpoint, said it was a load of s**t and the way it was designed meant that it would never work.
Now the drawers keep getting stuck in the ice build ups and after yanking and pulling at them, they are a bit smashed.
I've finally convinced the Mrs. that it's time to get rid and buy a new one. Will not be going anywhere near Hotpoint or associated brands.
Exactly same with mine
Exactly the same problem with mine
Q&A
I have owned one of these fridge/freezers for the past 5 years, and for the past 2 years I have had to empty the water over flow container (that's not its real name) which is housed at the bottom, back of the unit just above what I believe is the compressor.
2 years on I'm getting fed up with doing this chore, has anyone else had this issue, or managed to resolve it ?
I have read the nightmares on here that other customers have had with this freezer but mine (touch wood) has not yet developed.
