Molly's Reviews: I Recently Purchas
Molly's Reviews:
I recently purchased a replacement for my Presto Slow Cook 'n More Electric Multi-cooker, not that there was anything wrong with mine, but son begged mine as he moved into apartment nearer to his work.
The blurb on the Instruction Manual indicates there is a crockery liner for slow cooking and a basket for steaming and deep frying. The pot will also roast, braise, blanch, make casseroles, soups, steam, boil, stew, and deep fry and desserts with the crock liner removed. After using my original Presto Cook 'n More I can attest: The crockery liner does lift right out for easy roasting, boiling, stewing, and saut ing.
As the online publicity indicates; this appliance IS more than just a slow cooker...it's a world of cooking in one appliance. I particularly like to use mine for cooking pasta, shells, elbow, bow ties, any of the shorter formed varieties. The handy basket especially designed for deep frying, steaming and blanching is ideal for cooking the pasta. Put in water, bring to boil, add the basket with pasta in it and let cook, then simply lift the basket out and pour the pasta into bowl. The basket is made to snap onto the rim of the cooker for super easy draining when cooking veggies and the like.
The Control Master heat control has been redesigned since I bought my first Cook' n More. The old design was a single cord and control to be placed within orifice at bottom of the pot. The new design is 2 part with cord and a magnetic heat which snaps magnetically to the actual control. The control is a separate piece which fits into the orifice at the bottom of the pan. The new device fits the old pan, and it also fits my faithful Regal frying pan which I have used for 30 some years now. The Control Master ensures accurate cooking temperature, heavy cast aluminum construction guarantees the pan will heat evenly and resist warping. I expect the new nonstick finish to last as well as did that on the pan son took with him. Easy cleaning is assured: Cooker is completely immersible if the heat control is removed.
The cooking pan has a 6 quart capacity, the crock liner liquid capacity is 4 quarts. Glass lid is heavy and fits well. While I do use my pot a lot for cooking pasta, I have made many a roast, meat and gravy dishes, boiled potatoes, steamed veggies, browned hamburger meat for other dishes. In short if the only pan available in the kitchen were this one a wide variety of tasty, nutritious meals would be readily accomplished. This is another of the appliances I often give as wedding gifts. One was received with joy by niece Joy on her first wedding anniversary.
A peek at the Presto on line page indicates parts for the cooker are available and that the instruction/recipe manual is available as a pdf, and it was. I downloaded one immediately. Should I need a copy for son, it is handy. The pot comes with a one year limited warranty. My previous pot has well outlived its warranty and is cooking happily in Coffeeville, Kansas.
The instruction booklet provided prepares new cooks for using the pan with ease. Safeguards are listed, the reason behind the short cord explained, diagrams showing how to use the basket, and listing the parts of the cooker are included. Because the Control Master is new to me I was pleased to see a diagram of it. The Control Master can be replaced if need be. Care and cleaning of the cooker are included as well as instructions for using the crock liner. Recipes begin on page 6 and continue onto page 20. Included are recipes for slow cooking, the Stroganoff and Bread Pudding read to be especially delicious. Recipes for the Simmer Kettle begin on page 11, I especially the page with 'Create a Casserole'. A novice cook will soon be cooking like a pro using the Presto Slow Cook 'n More Electric Multi-cooker and recipes included in the instruction book.
