Stellah SRB-4 Electric Bass Guitar (Elm)

Seduced by its good looks and cheap price, I decided to go for the Stellah SRB-4 Bass as a second bass to my Fender Jazz. I must have received a 'Friday afternoon' bass, because the neck was very slightly scuffed, the body was discoloured under the lacquer at the back edge, and the rear strap button was completely missing. I was compensated for the blemishes and I replaced the strap button myself quite cheaply.

When I first plugged the bass into my Trace Elliott 300W amp, I was impressed by the warm but bright sound, although some notes were noticeably louder than others, which I put down to the resonant frequency of the room. There was some buzzing from a couple of the strings, which was cured by raising the action a few turns. I don't like the lack of markings on the control knobs, because it makes it hard to know exactly what the settings are, but they all seem to work fine.

Now that I have it set up, it plays very nicely. The intonation is accurate and it seems to stay in tune fairly well. The neck is, not surprisingly, very slightly fatter than my Fender Jazz and very slightly bendier, but I'm happy with the way it plays and sounds.

Overall I would say the Stellah SRB-4 bass is well worth the money and I'm looking forward to gigging with it.
