Great Singing Sloppy Direction
Saw the show last night and as expected, the singing was first class. Particular credit to Carole Stennett who played Nicki Marron and the boy who played Rachel Marron's son, Fletcher. Am a massive fan of Beverley Knight's singing but the standard of her acting wasn't the best and needs toning down - less is more.)
The Director needs to get hold of the cast and give them stronger direction to sharpen up their act, cut down on the long pauses in dialogue between characters and make the transitions (in mood and between scenes) much slicker etc. The acting often felt jilted and slow and the pace drained the energy from the otherwise brilliant vocal numbers in between scenes.
Overall good but could've been so much better.
