We Had A Gift Voucher For Afternoon Tea At The Lan
We had a gift voucher for afternoon tea at the Languish Hotel. We were made very welcome by the duty manager and shown to where we were going to have our afternoon tea. It was not in the main restaurant but a small but very pleasant room with a roaring log fire.
The 'tea' itself was very good, excellent selection of sandwiches and pastries along with the traditional hot scones with jam and clotted cream. There various pictures on the wall depicting the history of Languish House including a carved piece of wood. We asked the manager about this piece of wood and was told it was part of a punt which had the Pouncenby coat of arms carved into it. He then went onto give us a potted history of the hotel including a tour of the Vaults. The 'Vaults' looked fantastic. Apparently during the Cromwell era prisoners were held in dungeons. These dungeons have been converted into dining areas along with bar and lounges. You could still recognise the cells where the prisoners were kept.
Although we did not go into the gardens they looked from the view we had through the window.
In all we had a lovely traditional afternoon tea. The staff gave us excellent service and we will certainly go again for dinner and we may stay the night.
The only downside to the hotel is if it is busy parking might be limited and I am not sure where you might otherwise park as the hotel is situated on a country road.
