Fabulous .. Delicious Food
8 of us enjoyed a superb meal on 14th November. We all had starters and main course which were beautifully presented , and absolutely delicious !! Although there was no space left for desserts..... Our table was in the dining room which is gorgeous, with lovely decor. The service was excellent both attentive and friendly. Every member of the party would return and have recommended to friends. A perfect venue for a celebratory meal , or bar snack .

Horrible Food
Quite frankly the most disgusting all day breakfast I had, nd I have had a few. We decided to go there as the other three places we tried beforehand were closed on a tuesday around 6p.m. And this was close to our accommodation.
Big disappointment, the portions were big but that does not justify the prices (£10 for the all day breakfast and most mains were £16 onwards and my partner's main was hortible too). The owner seemed completely disinterested in making any effort to serve food that matches the high price tag and even though we did not complain, we made certain it was clear we wnt be returning. It has been one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had, if not the worst. Sad, cos locatin wise and opening hours wise it seemed promising but failed on all other levels.

It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This!
Having been a visitor to this fine establishment, since 2006, I must say I find some of the reviews I have seen hard to credit and feel bound to comment. I am no frustrated food critic or someone who has been watching too many cookery programmes, pretending that I expect to see (Or understand) a pretentious menu, but I appreciate and recognise good food (No matter what it is called).
I have never had a meal that was below par (Or anything like below par) in the Woodman (Only once has it ever taken a while to arrive and it was very busy at the time). It does tend to spoil you, as when you go elsewhere, you tend to judge places according to the Woodman, which is a very hard act to follow (The White Horse Inn at Stogumber and the Red Lion in Llangynidr are two that are up there at the top table so to speak). Indeed when I organised a block booking to the Woodman, not one person had anything but praise for the food. On other occasions, at other venues, there was always someone who was unhappy with something (Luckily I wasn’t responsible for those bookings!!).
Anyone who says that the quantities are skimpy should try the mixed grill. I have seen someone trying to get though one and frankly, it was enough for two or three people (It is, in all honesty, too big and could be offered in two versions; the regular mixed grill and perhaps the “Woodman Challenge”). It has to be borne in mind that in some cases, what was once regarded as a large portion, is now regarded as small (Buy a large tea at a railway station these days and it comes in something akin to a bucket) but I prefer to eat my food with a knife and fork, not a sink plunger (No wonder the nation’s waist line is expanding).
