Olvera Street Is The Oldest Street In Los Angeles,
Olvera Street is the oldest street in Los Angeles, and is located downtown, right across the road from union Station. It has a very Mexican bazaar feel about it - there are loads of stalls selling cheap, colorful, fun junk! There are several shops with better quality items, too, are there are so many little nooks & crannies, old buildings and even a couple of preserved houses which house small museums. You can also get some great traditional Mexican food, though it's best to eat in the little hole-in-the-wall places like Arnoldo's, where they have the best cheese enchiladas and drinks like Jamaica - yum! There are also ample places to stop for a margarita, and on the weekends it's a lot more lively with some entertainment in the square. If you'd rather not eat Mexican then just around the corner you'll find that amazing old LA institution, Phillipes - it's the cutest old diner in original condition, and still, with some original prices like 69c lemonade and 9c - yes, 9c coffee! They have great breakfasts and they're home to the original French dipped sandwich, which is so good, even if you don't think it'd appeal try one - they're fantastic! Oh, and they make their own hot mustard which is great on the sandwiches, too. And whilst you're in the area, pop over to Union Station if you're at all interested in trains or art-deco architecture, it's a great place!
