Canon Speedlite 270EX

I already own both the Canon 580EX and 420EX Speedlites which I use with my EOS 7D and EOS 20D cameras but wanted a smaller external flash to go with my Canon G9. Although both the 580EX and the 420EX fit the G9 they are way bigger than the camera and not only look silly they are not exactly portable. I got my G9 to take to places I wouldn't take my bigger cameras to but had to rely on the built in flash.

Some reviews said the 270EX didn't work that well on the G9 but I find it is just fantastic and really makes a huge difference to indoor shooting, or daylight shooting when a bit of fill is required.

Control is all from the camera which is a lot easier than you would imagine and works really well. You can adjust settings in seconds on the go so there is no real disturbance to your shooting flow.

One criticism, which is fair but minor, is that the bounce head won't rotate to help bounce when in portrait mode. I have an off camera flash cable so will use that if needed to get over this small issue.

The size of the 270EX is perfect to accompany a compact camera like the G9 and it will easily fit in a shirt pocket (it comes in a soft pouch)so it is ready whenever it is required.

All in all I think this is a great addition to my "travelling light" kit and I know it will get used a lot.
