I Paid £89.00 For This Navman Pc Gps Satelli

I paid £89.00 for this Navman PC GPS Satellite Receiver for Compaq iPAQ at Dixons a few weeks ago. I even got 10% off ! I have retuned since and it is for sale at £249.00.

I seem to have got a bargain!. Does anyone know if I can use different software other than co pilot, or if not, can I download european maps as it seems only to have UK.

Errrr, I must have missed something here, The Ipaq has its own Phone book.... or you can navigate 2 other ways or you can just know the approximate destination and let the Navman do the rest.

This is a marvelous device, and works perfectly with my Ipaq 3975!

Of course it will NOT drive my car for me, but I do not get lost anymore!!! (besides the fun toy factor!grin)Navman gets my vote!!!!!

The Jacket Hardware Is Fine, Although It Would Be

The jacket hardware is fine, although it would be better if it had a seperate antenna for the car. This forces the unit to be placed in the windscren, which blocks your view and makes it difficult to use. It would be nice if the unit had a plug in power point, this would save the use of a converter on the 38/39 series. The attached bracket sometimes falls off dropping your IPAQ. The provided software is so bad buy the new software from Tom Tom - it makes the Navman the perfect solution.

I had a look at Tom Tom on the basis of this review and have ordered the software. Hope that I have made the right decision!

This Brilliant Navman Pc Gps Satellite Receiver Br

This brilliant Navman PC GPS satellite receiver brings full colour gps to the Compaq iPAQ. It is incredibly accurate, down to 5m and has a compact flash slot so large map files can be stored on a cf card. The in car kit is excellent.

I'm sorry to pick the last comment apart but.. the Compaq badged Navman software came with voice directions rel 1.0 and was improved in 1.1 and later. Also, it does detect roundabouts so I don't know where you got your information from.!

Since I have been using the Compaq iNS AKA the badged Navman solution with extra features for about 18 months I can make the following comments.. whilst it is far from the perfect solution but it does do exactly what it says on the tin.

There were some early known problems with rel 1.0 in that some maps were inaccurate and that it would occasionaly fail to give you an important voice command. Also, the windscreen mount is dodgy and you will drop the iPAQ a couple of times and lastly the amont of time it takes to pinpoint your initial position is over 5 mins in most cases.

The improved software (1.1 and later) fixed the map and voice problems and added estimated arrival times to the routes and was a huge improvement.

I totally agree with the above review. You have a choice, buy the Navman Sleevewith Smartpath S/W for a shade over £200, or buy the Compaq-badged equivalent for 3 times the Price - bit daft considering they are both Manufactured by the same Company! True, it doesn't yet have voice, but Compaq's Co-Pilot Software can't detect Roundabouts in the UK either, and I have been reliably informed that a S/W upgrade is scheduled for Oct 2002 to include Voice. Don't waste money at PC World on the Compaq, buy this one - its the best on the Market!!!
