Problems, Problems, Problems

Where to start....The driver suddenly was out of date and had to be replaced. However, it won't load. Before that, it wouldn't print grayscale unless all the colors of ink were not out of ink. So simply printing a page of black and white document often meant running out to office depot during office hours only to buy some yellow ink. The ink ran out without using it, so many, many trips to buy ink despite hardly using this stupid printer. The manual is set up for all kinds of esoteric uses of the printer but basic uses have somehow been entirely ignored. What a waste of time and money.

Inks Too Expensive

When you buy A ink cartridges it the same as buying a new printer, so after a year throw the printer awy and buy a new one it is cheaper.

Worst Software Ever

Maybe the printer is technically okay but the software is the worst I have ever seen. Unless you like to get veryr, very frustrated, don't buy this disaster

Worst Printer Ever!!!! Beware.

Canon MG5200 series printer. This printer prints accurately, it looks nice, it has a nice display, and you can even print and scan wirelessly. By now it must seem like a great printer. BEWARE!!! This printer goes through ink like no other printer on this earth. I've had it for about 3 years now and I rarely print anything. Maybe once a month I print 5-10 pages, maybe. This thing runs out of ink probably 4 times per year. And just now I try to scan something and it WILL NOT allow me to scan until I replace the 1 ink cartridge that is out of ink out of the 5 ink cartridges it has. When I mean it will not, it will not, I'm a software engineer and I know my way around technology. The manufacturer had to have designed it so you have to buy ink if you want to scan. Between college and grad school I used a cheep HP printer for 8 years and I had to replace ink about once every year or two years and that was at a time of my life when I had a lot of stuff to print, and it allowed me the scanning function regardless of how much ink I had. This was supposed to be an upgrade but it sucks and is totally about making you buy ink and frustrating my life. Worst printer ever made period.

Overall Good

I got the Canon PIXMA because I needed both a new printer and a scanner for school. The printer takes a few seconds to warm up when you begin using it and shakes my desk as it warms up and prints. It's a fairly quick printer, so the few seconds of desk-quake are bearable. Lines print crisply and the color comes out almost exactly as it should every time. I did my senior year of high school online and had to print out tests every week to mail in, but only had to replace my ink cartridges once or twice.

The scanner is quick as well, and has a nice high resolution. My only complaint about it is that the color is never right. Photographs and drawings tend to scan in strange colors, but an image editing software can fix it. Pencil drawings scan in with the paper slightly orange and I usually have to edit the contrast levels.

All in all it's been a reliable printer and scanner the past year or so. It could be more quiet and have better colors in scanning, but it prints more quickly than the scanners I've had in the past. It's a nice little printer for the price.

Constantly Sucking Away Ink With Needless Printing Cycles!

I've really had it with this printer! It runs a cleaning cycle after EVERY print job if you wait more than 1:30 minutes. This is outrageous!

I have an MG5200 series... Canon made the ink cartridges SMALLER and they intentionally programmed in constant cleaning cycles!!

Total Piece. Not Worth A Shiny Dime

I'll start that to its credit It prints good photos, colors are nice and bright, not blurred. But after only several uses it became cumbersomly slow, then it plain out broke. The rollers that load the paper went out, now it's useless. Plus it takes a Martian day to prep itself for the work it can't do ( lots internal noises and such). Wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy, unless he had to print something defamatory about me; because it wouldn't get printed.

Canon Pixma Mg5200 Is A Great Printer

I've had this printer for a year. It works great, does really nice photos. I have been buying complete sets of ink cartridges (5) for $7 on ebay. I think it's great that you only have to replace the ink that is empty, that and the low cost of ink is why I bought this printer. It was a snap to set up wireless. I have it in my upstairs office but print to it from all over the house. Good maintenance functions for cleaning the print heads and feed rollers. I have 3 HP printers which all use HP 61 ink (only the all in one is on line because I use the scanner). It cost more for a couple of sets of ink for them than I paid for this really good printer. I was buying the HP printers at Walmart, taking the ink out and giving the printers to Goodwill. If your primary goal in life is overpaying for ink, then by all means shop HP or Lexmark, etc. If you want low operating expense, good wireless operation and nice photo quality, ignore the whiners on this site and get this printer. I spent 20 years at AT&T and IBM supporting desktops, laptops, servers and printers.

Mg5250 Avoid !!!!

This was an upgrade on my previous Canon printer.

I have had it for just one day and I am so disappointed.

I liked the overall look and features, particularly the wireless capability and the fact it had the 2 paper feeds.

Easy enough to set up, but when it came to actually printing it was a nightmare. It takes a long tome for the printer to process a document sent wirelessly, the the actual printing itself is really slow, to the point it only partially prints the page then ejects the paper as the session times out,

I have not tried it with the usb printer cable attached and i am hoping it will be faster that way.

Overall, very, very disappointed.
