Storm Agnes

Even up to the day before storm Agnes was going to strike Cornwall, it was baton down the hatches, here on the coast at Mevagissey we had a shower at midday and a medium breeze late afternoon. What’s the point of millions of pounds worth of technology being deciphered by clowns.

I Used To Run My Day Based On The Weather Forecast

I used to run my day based on the weather forecast given on teletext 153 which was always accurate giving morning afternoon and evening and a two day forecast where have these forecasters gone to as none of the current weather forecasts are either accurate or descriptive. bring back teletext.

Actually, I Don't See The Point Of Weather Reports

Actually, I don't see the point of weather reports at all, invariably they are incorrect unless there is a either a totally dominant anticyclonic weather system (I.e. stable atmospheric conditions are prevalent, in which case the forecast would be for dry settled weather ) or a totally dominant cyclonic weather system in place. If either of these conditions is true then a weather forecast is irrelevant. If these conditions are not met then a weather forecast is totally irrelevant, as no one knows exactly what is going to happen, leading to "covering my own arse" forecasts eg :-"Mostly dry and bright with some good clear spells, but also the possibility of cloud and the odd chance of scattered showers. Tonight will be dark but clear with the possibility of a ground frost developing by morning. The odd wintry shower is possible near the east coast."As soon as you mention the word possibility why bother? From the above, one can conclude that TV companies could save vast amounts of money by not having to employ weather forecast presenters (who seem to be paid to look pretty and wave their arms in sweeping motions across the country - presumably to indicate the general wind direction or simply to highlight which country we are looking at), camera and other staff and possibly researchers? No, I think the best weather forecast is to get in the morning, draw the curtains and have a look outside; if it is sunny hope for the best and dress accordingly. If it is pouring down with rain, take an umbrella. Bear in mind that whether we are looking at macro or micro weather forecasts the two are interchangeable, in that, a macro forecast for Britain is a micro forecast for Europe and the Atlantic, while a micro forecast for Yorkshire, is a macro forecast for Sheffield. In their defence weather forecasts are good and I tend to use them as a barometer (sic) as to what is not likely to happen.
