2nd Chance/last Chance

We've been to this hotel 4 years ago and it was OK you get what you pay for in the uk, lift not working poor 3 course evening meal, good buffet breakfast.

4 years on nothing has changed for the better at all, this time I once again booked direct with the hotel which wasn't good at all with the 2nd person I spoke to, booked and paid for a sea view room which we got the room was dull, dinghy, damp, and the window was disgustingly unhealthy no other description, also screwed down and couldn't get any fresh air in at all only through the bathroom window which opened 4 inches, lift out of order for a 30 hour period with mostly elderly people staying. Nothing much has improved in the 4 years, ghe dinning room is a little better spaced out table's, yes the corridors have had a coat of paint but room 228 avoid at all costs hasn't seen a paint brush in 15-20 years and that's no exaggeration, only did B+B this time and the breakfast is OK as its buffet Beautiful location could be beautiful hotel but the new owners don't want to spend any more than the last, fantastic staff members throughout all the hotel held back by the management.

Royal Hortel Whitby Exceeded Our Expectations

After reading some of the reviews for Shearing's hotels we were a little apprehensive as to what was in store at the Whitby Hotel. This was our first Shearing's hotel experience. Our room was on the third floor and was a lovely sized bedroom and bathroom with a huge shower. Both looked recently renovated and redecorated and had a wonderful sea view, which must be one of the best views in Whitby. (Perhaps the windows on the outside could do with a clean)! The room and bathroom were spotless. Bathroom was just short of somewhere to put toiletries (both in bathroom and inside shower) and a towel rail to hang wet towels. Plenty of hot water. Bed really comfortable. We were both surprised and very pleased with our room allocation. Breakfast was plentiful and nicely cooked, as was the evening meal with fresh vegetables and plenty of choices. Our waiter, and all the staff we approached, were helpful and very pleasant. Some public areas of the hotel are somewhat shabby, but they are all comfortable and clean with a lovely atmosphere, which, for us, is the main thing. We had a really enjoyable 5-day self drive break and are looking forward to returning soon.

Customer Service Stinks!! Hospital Food!

A large group of pensioners booked rooms at this hotel and were treated like 2nd class citizens because they didnt book through shearings holidays. Firstly their bus was not allowed to park at the hotel and had to park way out of whitby and the driver had to get a taxi to the hotel. Pensioners were expected to carry their own cases to their rooms, no help or porters available. Also, a different menu was given to non-shearing customers. Food was poor. Hospital food. You are suppose to be treated special when you go to hotel, but it was as if they didnt want the custom. They didnt acknowledge that the pensioners where suppose to be on their holidays!! would never go back!

Great Short Break

We have just returned from a wonderful break in Whitby. I was surprised at the poor reviews the Royal has received. The character of the building was lovely. Our room was clean and comfortable, perhaps small but we were visiting the area not staying in the room all day. The food and service was very good bearing in mind the dining room was full to capacity. We particularly liked our cheerful waiter who had only been in the job two weeks! The only thing that spoilt things was a couple on the table next to us who were rude to the staff and did nothing but complain about everything and anything without good reason. No doubt they had a thoroughly miserable holiday and the staff were glad to see them go home!

Have Recently Stayed At The Royal Hotel, Whitby An

Have recently stayed at the Royal Hotel, Whitby and it was not a pleasant experience. Our room was shabby and run down. Although it was a warm night at the end of august the heating was on full blast. When we requested to turn it off we were informed that this was not possible as there were no individual controls in the rooms. So we tried to open the window only to find that this was nailed shut. The bed was full of broken springs and the shower head was broken.

The food was disgusting. I am sure that there was not a qualified chef in the kitchen and that most of the food came from catering size tins or was the boil in the bag variety.

The lift was inadequate for the size of the hotel and would only take 2-3 people at a time.

So all in all we did not have a comfortable stay. Although the staff were mostly European they were helpful and polite. Also the hotel was very clean. But Shearings should be ashamed to be offering this standard of accomodation on their coach tours.

If you must stay in this hotel avoid room 324 as this is a health and safety disaster waiting to happen.

We Use This Hotel On A Shearings Self Drive Packag

We use this Hotel on a Shearings self drive package and have always found the Staff polite and very helpful. The meals are good value and i like the fact that the Hotel has entertainment and dancing in the evenings. We have stayed in another Hotel in Whitby prior to finding the Royal and the standard was nowhere as good. My sister and myself have booked another weekend at the Royal and we are looking forward to it. It is worth the extra few pounds for a sea view and also the premier rooms are lovely. The Hotel is also great for a pre Christmas break which we will be doing again this year. We have no complaints about this Hotel at all.
