The Cleanliness Of The Apartment Was Not Very Good
The cleanliness of the apartment was not very good. We were met by the owner and he showed me around whilst the cleaner was still trying to finish. The sheets on the bed smelt musty, looked very old and when we vacated the apartment we discovered that we had all been bitten by fleas which was appalling. The cupboards had no hangers for our clothes and some had smelly old duvets and blankets which I presume were supposed to be spares. There were also cupboards full of dusty old clothes and pictures, making it feel very unclean.
The water only provided enough warm showers for half of us, which is unacceptable when advertising an apartment suitable for 8 people. The bathrooms were very old and worn and had mould and limescale over them. The kitchen was barely any better. The frying pan handle was falling off and the appliances were very old and stained.
There was no mention of the fourth bedroom being in the basement. The windows opened onto a wall of cobwebs, above which were broken tiles which were on the patio area. It smelt damp and musty and the shower room down there was terrible. The water never heated up and it flooded when you took a shower. Again the shower room was mouldy and you felt dirtier after being in it than before.
The garden looks great in your pictures but in reality it has lots of broken masonry laying around, broken flower pots and is not an area you would want to sit in. The canopy is very dirty and full again of cobwebs. There is an additional garden area that goes around the side of the flat and would be completely unsuitable for Children to enter, as again it is full of broken masonry and holes.
The glass on the windows is known as float glass and is the cheapest you can buy. It is very dangerous if it breaks and seeing as it moves in the window it will only be a matter of time before it does.
The towels provided were also very poor, like the linen. There were half empty bottles of wine left in the kitchen from previous guests. The fridge wasn't cleaned and the freezer was iced up. I had tried calling the owner the day after we arrived, to try and sort out the hot water problem, but he didn't answer.
I wouldn't recommend this for families with young children. I also wouldn't go back myself as sockets were falling out of the walls and it generally felt unsafe. There were 2 poere cuts when we were there.
I booked through Rome sweet home and have sent them my complaint numerous times, but they will not reply.
