The Grand Mauritian

We stayed at the Grand Mauritian for our honeymoon. It is a huge hotel and personally we prefer a much smaller hotel.

The half board deal was strange in that each night you were given a meal allowance. The amount of the allowance depended on what was on offer for dinner. It usually worked out that with the meal allowance we weren't paying much more for our food but given you pay half board and that is supposed to include breakfast and dinner, you do feel cheated having to pay slightly more for what you've eaten.

We were upgraded to a luxury suite and it was absolutely perfect. The room was clean, modern and very luxurious. The hotel grounds were neat and tidy.

The only way to get into town is by taxi which was quite expensive. The closest town was very small and didn't offer much for tourists.

Overall it was a good hotel. I would recommend it to people not wanting to explore Mauritius, preferring to stay around the hotel.
