the past two times my Mother in Law (MIL) has rented a car from Travelrent both durations were for a month each she has been overcharged and treated terribly by them. The last occasion in May, my MIL rented an economy car - after a day a warning light came on and she called Customer Service - they advised her to return the car to the airport, when she got there they said the light was always on, it was a fault of the car and she would be fine to drive it. When she returned to the airport to give the car back on her departure date the guy that was receiving the car said there was a €15 car park charge to be paid - when she asked for what he said it was for the day she returned with the faulty car. She challenged him on this and he got very rude and angry, swore at her and told her he wasnt listening to her and she could go to the Kiosk to discuss it. When she went to the Kisok he ju,ped in the car and left - without returning the €20 deposit to her that they charge for the toll a cash deposit that they should return to you when you return the car should you not have used the Tolls. My MIL spoke to the attendant at the Kiosk who told her she couldnt help her and she would have to call the office. We have emailed and called several times since and have had no response. My MIL is in her 70's and it is disgusting that this company treat any of its customers in this manner but a 70+ year old lady travelling alone who is frazzled and heading for a flight. We will never use TravelRent again, and would advise others the same!

this company are now charging 20 euro fee for the tolls i visit the algarve regularly and know my toll use cost about 5 euros so this is obviously rubbish.

Also they are now using 12 tank return 12 tank which again leaves you open to putting to much in the tank on return

when i put petrol in my rental on return to the airport the fuel gauge stuck and ended up nearly filling the tank

i have email travel rent with pictures of the fuel gauge and receipts from the garage but they have just ignored me which tells you a lot

wont be using them again

We hired a car from 27th May till 10th June upon collecting the car it was showing a lot of faults and a notice which detailed the vehicle would stop within 300kmh we were advised by the rep that it would not stop the engine as they had disabled this. Well low and behold 300kmh we were left stranded and no one answering their breakdown line.

I finally managed to get hold of them the next day who sent a company to collect the car and were told we had to go to the airport and collect another car.

Upon arriving at the airport they did not have a car ready and upon hanging around for an hour were given a car fresh from the scrap heap.

When we returned the vehicle they wanted to charge us for tolls in getting back to our villa despite it not being our fault the vehicle they had supplied us was not fit for purpose and we had to travel to the airport and pick up a new car.

We left Portugal having learnt a lesson but to arrive home and find they have charge £125.00 to my credit card for reasons better known to others.

They refuse to communicate by phone or email and i have had to contact my credit card company to have the charges reversed.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

When I returned the car the rep approach me from the drivers side of the car and then went directly and without hesitation to the passengers door and pointed out that the lock had been pushed in. When I told him that I only used the remote control he started to be unfriendly. When he started to scream at me "you have to pay!!!", I got afraid and left. Now they charged 750,00€ from my credit card (deposit). So far I did not get it back (of course I will take a lawyer if they do not pay back the next weeks)... but I could have used this time for anything better than to cope with this stupid agency! My recommendation: get a better agency, pay 20€ more... but avoid all the trouble!

Beware TravelRents insurance cover as full cover without excess doesn't mean you are fully covered. According to TravelRent you are only covered if you can identify that someone else was at fault and you have their particulars. So if the damage occurs as a result of your actions or someone hits you when you are not there then TravelRent will charge you for the repairs. Also fuly check out any car when picking it up particularly areas which you would not normally see, e.g under cills and under front and back.
