Not What We Expected
Was very disappointed to find out that we had no reception on our phones at all in the whole caravan site and to make it worse no wifi either.
If I knew this I would have never gone there. My daughter had to finish off her assignments and submit it and it was a nightmare as no reception and no wifi to do her search / work and submit. She ended up sitting in the reception for three days / evenings ( as the only place with wifi) which had very poor reception as well but that’s the only choice she had. We asked staff if she could have the staff wifi login just to finish her work and submit it but the lady in charge couldn’t care less.
This completely ruined our break.
The caravan itself was sooooo tight/ minimal space in the bedrooms/ toilet with very small doors. I have bruises on my scapula from it and I was actually thinking if I had a few more pounds in weight it would have been impossible to safely use the facility .
Otherwise the staff were polite and ready to deal with any queries.
You had to book all the activities for children in advance : swimming, golf, etc.
Restaurant space was first come first serve!
Food not really great options !

Do Not Easter Your Money - Disgusting
I never write reviews but I am so disappointed and actually discussed with the hygiene of this camp site. During covid times you would think we would have running water at all times. Showers have stopped on us mid showering numerous times and not come back on. One morning I went to the toilet and went to wash my hands and no water. Showers blocks and toilets are disgusting and for the whole time I’ve been here so far I have not once gone in there and thought they had been cleaned. There obviously is a problem here with the water pressure which needs to be dealt with to allow people to wash daily and also not enough showers and toilets for the amount of people you let stay at this camp. Always having to que for showers.
I will say staff have been friendly and views are fantastic.

Not Covid Safe - Not Monitored To Ensure Quality
ON a number of levels the site was inadequate even unsafe. There was little to suggest any serious consideration of making the site Covid safe- little evidence of showers and toilets being cleaned regularly. No toilet roll, no soap, no obvious monitoring and checking of distance between tents.
This is advertised as a family site, I was awake until the early hour of the morning by loud drunk groups, with dogs that were not being controlled properly. On three occasions the same aggressive dog approached my daughter and I. On other occasions I saw dog mess left on the grass where children were able to play. It seemed like everybody was left to do what they felt. It was stipulated that there were no open fires I saw a number of groups using fires.
I will be ring the site also to lodge a formal complaint about our experience.

Great Staff Mary And Peter So Friendly Park Kept Very Tidy
As soon as I spoke to Mary on the phone I was made to feel welcome and was looking forward to meeting her. I was not disappointed she was great; so nice. The park was really lovely, kept so clean and tidy the caravan we had was immaculate with views of the sea. we have been to 5 of your caravan sites and we will be booking again next year. Mary and Peter are a credit to your company and made our holiday as soon as we arrived at the park. Keep employing people like them. Thank you for a great holiday, already looking forward to next year.Hilary and Barry Blackmore Norwich.

Absolutely Disgusting
First caravan we were given was dirty and situated up a muddy track, inside the kitchen area floor was greasy and slippery, dirty fridge and microwave. Complained to reception and was given another caravan which was not much better. The duvets and pillows were covered in dog hairs the T.V. did not work the shower was broken and the water temperature fluctuated so you either froze or was scolded when taking a shower. After complaining the duvets, pillows and T.V. were replaced but the shower was not fixed. After paying for an upgrade which appears to be a waste of money as all the caravans appear to be of the same standard.Facilities on site were very basic.Would never use John Fowler again

Filthy Dirty.......
just returned from our very unpleasant and uncomfortable stay at Widemouth Bay 4 days early as we could not stand another night in the cold, damp and filthy caravan. On arrival we were given our key and went to find our caravan, it was disgusting! The caravan was very old and tired wallpaper coming off the walls, windows that let in water and where the curtains blew in the wind but the most shocking part was how filthy it was! It smelled revolting, the carpet was stained and caked in dog/human hairs, there was faeces on the toilet roll holder, blood up the toilet door and blood and urine stains on the mattress.
I complained about this and asked for the caravan to be cleaned again while we went out and it was cleaned again but to be honest not properly as the faeces remained on the toilet roll holder! We were so cold at night none of us slept well, we asked for extra duvets which we got promptly however this made no difference. Even withthe heaters on overnight you could see your own breath it was that cold and damp. All our clothes felt damp each morning. We lay each night with the wind blowing on us through the ill fitting windows and water seeping in too.
My Parents were in the next caravan to us and theirs was even worse than ours (unbelievable!) their caravan stank of dog, the door has been chewed by dogs. We had to ask maintenance to clear up approximatley 20 dog poos from outside their van. They then also had the same problems as us regarding cold, damp and filth along with lack of equipment. Also their door became stuck with them in it, imagine that if there was a fire!!
All in all an utter disgrace thatJohn Fowler Holidays deem that accomadation fit to let quite frankly the only thing that should be done with those caravans is to be scrapped! A complete waste of money and an insult to my family to think that is acceptable accomodation.....avoid at all costs. Visit Widemouth Bay as iit is beautiful but stay right away from John Fowler as completely spoils the area!!!!

Wasnt The Best.
myself and my family stayed here for a couple of weeks this year(2011).the holiday started well, the accommodation etc were good.then in the second week the female entertainer from the campsite(there was only one i think)decided shw would take a liking to my 17 year old daughters boyfriend.needless to say this didnt end well.my husband will be checking next year and if she is there again we will be going elsewhere becayse we were told this wasnt the first time,so just be aware!
on the topic of the camp,i thought the food on site was ok,maybe a little pricey but we didnt really need to go anywhere else for it.the entertainment was ok,not brilliant but what do you expect for the money you pay.all the staff were friendly and helpful its just a shame it was spoilt by that one person.
hope to return next year as its a beautiful location, will just have to see what ents team are there

Waste Of Money
I stayed on Jonh Fowlers, Widemouth Bay site this year, against my better judgement after reading some reviews, but needed to stay in the Bude area so thought i would give it a go, on arriving at reception was greeted by a very unfriendly face it was as though the old dear there was not enjoying her work at all, i was given a caravan which had seen better days not value for money at all, when i asked to speak to the manager he was was very unhelpful and rude, and had a total lack of concern for my complaints, the site itself was clean but very hilly and the shop very expensive, the swimming pool was ok and the attendant very helpful. The bar was a bit expensive as you would expect and the bar staff not great or helpful at all, obviously they have taken a leaf out of their managers how to treat customers book, the food available was not great a very poor standard, eat off site would be my advice, entertainment is what you would expect from a park of this type, not great though, overall this site is over priced and a bit dated but in a great location in beautiful Cornwall...i am amazed at some of the reviews on this site saying how good it is i would suggest the staff are adding these themselves because i fail to see how a paying customer would make such remarks, come on John Fowlers start taking note of genuine reviews and train your staff and update your sites to a better standard, they are in such great locations it is a shame to see them in this state...MG Wales.
yeah i agree stayed here 3 years now an a lot worse this year..entertainment staff couldnt be bothered didnt speak to any one or make any effort that i could see..wont be goin again
