My First Car And I Love It!

I got a 1987 924S with 68,400 original miles as my first car five and a half years ago. 55,000 miles later, it's still running great, taking me on long road trips, to college with several hundred pounds of my belongings in the back, and to work every day. Fuel mileage is good, averaging around 27 if I don't push it too hard, and it's really fun to drive.

Maintenance can be a little expensive, mainly the clutch, timing belts, and water pump. Working on it yourself helps a lot, and parts aren't hard to get because the body and interior are pretty much the same as the original 924 and the engine is the same as the 944, both models with over 100,000 produced.

The Porsche 924 Is A Great Place To Enter The Worl

The Porsche 924 is a great place to enter the world of Porsche ownership. They probably cheaper to run and maintain than any other Porsche. Don't expect Ford or Vauxhall prices for parts though. Mines done 170,000 miles and is used daily for a long commute. I get 38mpg on a run and it still pulls well to 120mph or so.

Good Points About The Porsche 924 2.5s Is 50/50 We

Good points about the Porsche 924 2.5s is 50/50 weight distribution, with good tires it handles like a god. Decently quick off the start, pretty good top speed for a 4 cylinder but again, the handling beats almost anything on the road. Great car for the money. Not the most fun thing to work on, expensive parts (if you get OEM parts), ridiculous labor costs, and hard to find a good Porsche mechanic. If you don't know what you're doing and you have no idea how to work on them, you'll dump more into it than it's worth. If you do your own work (as i do), they are a wonderful vehicle. Highly recomended.

Love To Drive This Car, And Creates So Much Attent

Love to drive this car, and creates so much attention, I think every time I take her out someone asks a question about it. I had a 1984 924 lux about 9 years ago, but with the 2.0 Audi engine, it made all the right noises, but lacked grunt, now I've got a 87 924s, and the 2.5 porsche engine gives great performance (ask the plonker in the 316 compact BMW! ha ha last time he tries to out pull a Porsche!). Only thing is the breaks are useless, and need a good hard push to grind her to a stop, and in the wet I'm on edge if you are a little heavy on the right foot, still makes for good fun!

For A Great Drive, Get A 924s! The Best Combinatio

For a great drive, get a 924S! The best combination of the 924 and the 944. Makes 911s look really ugly. Mine's now done nearly 176,000 miles and still impressively fast. I bought it about 6 years ago for £1,400, have probably spent £5,000 on it but I drive it every day and do around 1000 miles per month. What a car! Turns more heads than any MX5 could and it's 21 years old!

I Drive A 1987 924s. The Design For The Old 924's

I drive a 1987 924S. the design for the old 924's is VW but 924S is Porsche. Its a 924 body over a PORSCHE 944 drive train. I love my car. gotta fix up some stuffs like the sunroof and headlight motor and paint but still it gets people's attention in a positive way. I plan to change the body a bit.

I'm A 20 Year Old Trainee Electrician And I Fancie

I'm a 20 year old trainee electrician and I fancied a cheap sports car that looked good and goes pretty well I started by looking at Toyota mr2's then i fancied a bmw 325i but only found abused high milers so I turned my attention to hot hatches and after driving several Saxo vtr's and MG zr's I realised what a poorly built car they were. So i went on the auto trader and was searching for a sports car again and some how came across a red Porsche 924s. I went and test drove it I loved the car but not the particuar one I drove so I went and saw the one, I own now it. It is a 1986 924s and is in very good shape I just wish I was 21 so I can qualify for classic car insurance as the insurance would drop a lot but all in all its a fantastic cheap sports car that is a head turner and still quick for a old car.

My Porsche 928 Had Been In A Minor Front-end Colli

My Porsche 928 had been in a minor front-end collision, and was bought by a friend of mine who had intended to restore it. His circumstances changed, so it sat idle under a tree for three years gathering dirt and mould. I took pity on it and took it on as a running restoration project. It took ages to get it clean, but after a new set of tyres, a tiny amount of welding, a new set of engine belts and a few electrical and mechanical parts, it now looks good and runs nicely. The engine feels tough and very torquey, and the gearbox, although a bit obstructive when cold, is positive and meaty, which makes driving it a pleasure. The brakes and steering are confidence inspiring, and it's fairly comfortable. It was a bit creaky to drive initially, but now the suspension and dampers have had some exercise, the ride is taut and supple. The electrics have suffered from standing outside for so long, but it's a fine machine, and something of a connoisseurs car - the performance of a 944, but the understated looks of a 924 - although the bigger standard wheels and tyres than the 2-litre 924 give it a more purposeful stance. Overall, it is a very nice, well balanced and quick gentleman's carriage.

Fantastic Timeless Classic. Rustproof Body And Cha

Fantastic timeless classic. Rustproof body and chassis; engine good for 200K miles+, with a bit of care. Fuel consumption not too bad, if you don,t red line it too often! Very easy to drive in town and even makes motorway driving enjoyable. Very cheap insurance (£120 a year fully comp on 1,500 miles per year). Room for 4 (just), but my German Shepherd loves it. Space in the boot for full sets of golf clubs in the bags.
