Mont Blanc Rbx 3200 We Bought The Box I
Mont Blanc RBX 3200
We bought the box in a bit of a panic about a week before I retired. We were ready to go off to our house in France for three months and suddenly realised that we couldn't get everything in the car (Volvo S60). We bought a reasonably cheap box thinking we'd use it only once but it's probably now done a dozen 1200 mile round trips.
The first problem was with the roof stays that basically needed a bang with something heavy to get them to close - no real problem, just inconvenient.
The second, more serious, problem was that rear lock was always difficult to close because the fixed part of the lock seemed to turn in the hole and so didn't let you turn it all the way to get the key out easily.
Now - on to the very flat road between Dreux and Chartres, speed about 50 mph because of the very strong crosswind from the right. A loud bang and in the mirror I see a 40cm Monet china wall plate flying thorough the air together with some bags of shoes and such like. Incredibly there was no oncoming traffic at this point so I'm not still doing 15 years in the Bastille. A plethora of elastic straps got us to our destination in about 15 hours instead of eight. And yes, I had checked everything was shut properly.
My wife wanted to throw the box away but six simple holes and a set of 6mm bolts, lockwashers and wing nuts has enabled us to keep using it. But now we want something bigger and will be going for a Kamei box.
Love this review. It's a delight to read something amusing written by someone who had an education.
