I have paid for unemployment cover for over five years ,and have been chasing payment for two months now, they asked for four months payslips, letters from my employer, proof from the job centre that I am claiming benefit and that I am unemployed ,and still no payment, every time I contact them they say they will be in touch in 11 days, what can I say utterly rubbish customer service, you don't expect this kind of service from HALIFAX,but that's exactly what you get if you take out a policy with them.

Humiliating Service
Paid for 8 yrs & last year my doctor placed me on the sick with depression, anxiety & stress. I found St Andrews Insurance staff helpful at first & they paid the first 3 months but they don't keep you informed on claim & letters arrive late. Canceled my claim as no supporting psychiatrist to support claim, BIG MISTAKE AS SUPPLIED DOCTOR REFERRAL NOTE TO CPN COUNSELLING-BREACH OF CONTRACT & NOW THEY WONT RETURN MY CALLS!!!

Halifax The Bank That Like To Say No
Unfortunately I was made redundant in Feb 2013 had Halifax insurance what a joke they put adverts on the television saying how good they are pity they did not say how bad their insurance side of the business is VERY BAD INDEED would not recommend this side of the business to anybody .that don't do what they say they put more hurdle in your way and its our money they are playing god with dont know any body who is pleased with them
Ppi Claims
WHAT CAN I SAY.....LOTS, AND IT'S ALL BAD.
MY MORTGAGES INSURANCE CLAIM HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE. ALL INFORMATION FOR THE LAST 3-MONTH CLAIM HAS BEEN SENT FOUR TIMES NOW AND SIX MONTHS ON, STILL NO PAYMENT.
A PHONE CALL TO THEM EXPLAINED THAT NO PAYMENT COULD BE MADE UNTIL I SIGN THEIR LETTER, WHICH APPARENTLY HAD BEEN SENT IN THE POST 1ST CLASS TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO MY CALL. A FIRST CLASS LETTER DOES NOT TAKE THIS LONG, BUT AMAZINGLY, IT ARRIVED TWO DAYS AFTER MY CALL.
ALL INFORMATION WAS SENT AGAIN AND 1 MONTH ON, STILL NOTHING.
A LETTER OF COMPLAINT WAS SENT AND NO REPLY.
ANOTHER PHONE CALL AND AMAZINGLY, IT HAD BEEN SORTED THAT SAME DAY, BUT WOULD TAKE 3 DAYS TO CLEAR.
IN THE MEAN TIME, I HAVE BEEN CONTINUALLY OVERDRAWN AND HAVE BEEN CHARGED A POUND A DAY BY THE SAME BANK AS I HAVE THE MORTGAGE WITH.
SO, THE REALITY IS, WHEN I DO FINALLY GET PAYED, THE BANK HAS EFFECTIVELY REDUCED THE FINAL FIGURE BY PENALIZING ME FOR A SITUATION THEY HAVE CREATED.
A FOOL CAN SEE THROUGH THIS LITTLE GAME AND IT IS NOTHING LESS THAN A SCAM TO HOLD ON TO MY MONEY FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.
THE ONLY ADVICE I CAN GIVE IS COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN AND DON'T BACK DOWN. I HAVE BEEN LIED TO AND IGNORED. BETTER STILL, DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH THE HALIFAX AT ALL.
Agree we are still having probs six months down the line, its appears that since being taken over by St Andrews/LLoyds tsb they have moved the goal posts making it harder to claim.
They want to hold on to your money, whilst your mortgage goes into arrears,so in the end they gain, and not you.
The gov or to look into this, and should be better regulated.

Shocking
WISH I HAD READ THE REVIEWS, SHOCKING , DO NOT USE THIS!!!!! I WAS MADE REDUNDANT ON 29TH JUNE THIS TEAR AND HAD MORTGAGE PROTECTION WITH WHOM I THOUGHT A REPUTABLE COMPANY, THEY TOLD ME AT THE BANK IT WOULD PAY OUT FROM DAY ONE, ( NOT THE CASE ) 30 DAY EXCESS!!!I ALSO TOOK OUT EXTRA TO COVER THE BILLS, I WAS SUPPOSED TO GET £650 A MONTH I WAS OUT OF WORK FOR 3 MONTHS AND GOT £149 FROM THEM , BEING TOLD THAT I DON'T GET ANYTHING UNLESS I REGISTER WITH THE JOB CENTRE WHICH I DID, NEEDLESS TO SAY CANCELLED RIGHT AWAY , I HAVE PAID INTO IT FOR 2 YEARS I WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER KEEPING THE MONEY IN A SEPERATE ACCOUNT, LESSON LEARNT...DON'T TOUCH THEM
,totally agree with you, made as hard as possible to make a claim, i have paid in since 2002 and was made redundant in november 2012. The service is appalling, hoop after hoop has to be jumped through, constantly faxing more paperwork to prove unemployment, jsa has just ended so now expected to provide evidence of jobsearch, rejection letters, applications, cover letters, 3 each month, harder than you think as most companys do not respond to job applicants. Have never had the full 30 days amount that i should get, last payment was for 25 days, not enough to cover mortgage and insurance payment. Phone to get explanation, waste of time, staff mainly rude and indifferent, seem to try to make it as stressful as possible, letters take 2 weeks to get to you, text message service that they say they provide is non exsistent. Anyone thinking that because they are with a reputable company are in for a shock when they try to claim on this insurance, halifax banks where the staff are friendly and helpful and the insurance part based in ireland are totally different, unfortunately you do not know how bad it is till you make a claim. I intend to take my mortgage, bank account and insurance away from halifax as soon as my situation improves.

What A Terrible Service
It's easy to blame yourself as you are feeling low but I documented and sent Halifax everything. They provide a terrible service. You have to remember they have your money. If I had just put the money in a jar I would be better off.
The pack they send you is riddled with errors. They tell me they will only pay out 75% of any cover level. We payed in extra to cover the bills but they tell us they will not honor that unless you are made redundant as husband and wife.
Hoop after hoop. They take so long to get back to you on anything. They made sure I am on the bread line and about to sell my house.
The claims team are so emotionless. I dont know how they do it.

No Problems
I think in some situations it is easier to blame someone else. Always make copies of documents. Get a folder to keep bank statements etc. This is the 2nd time we have made a claim, partner is in building trade so we've always had to pay for protection. We did have problems with claim dates as the jobcentre got it wrong but that was not Halifax to blame. If you provide all the right documents and declarations will have no problems.
If company goes into liquidation its for the administrators to fill in documents not director. Pay slips for 6 months and p45 can be used instead if your lucky enough to have them.
Even if you only claim national insurance from job centre its easier to provide documented proof than to prove to bank direct. Cos they want aloof proof.
Hope have helped!
Also have rang up for help and advice and has been good.
The letters do take a while to arrive but you can call up.
Don't forget council tax benefit and if your a couple both ring up individually for working tax and child tax individually.
Q&A
I transferred my mortgage product to Halifax in 2005. I noticed on my statement that there was an insurance loan. I never asked for this. Can I claim this back?
How can I find out if we took insurance out in case we came out of work so our mortgage is still getting paid?
