Awful Customer Service And Very Expensive Quotes

I discovered that I had been paying far too much for my campervan insurance and rang to discuss this with HIC. I was passed from department to department for over 20 minutes and in the end gave up. I requested a call back and this came quickly (this time). I spoke to someone who advised that they could not find a way to be competitive with the quotes that i had got elsewhere and that I could cancel as I was in the 14 days of renewal. At no point did she tell me about the cost of cancellation and that it went up the further into 14 days I was.

I requested a call back to cancel and was disconnected twice. I requested another call back which then worked. This operator after passing me around for a while and keeping me on hold for 20 minutes with no explanation then said she would send me an email to respond to which would cancel my policy. I waited and waited and nothing arrived. Conscious that another day would cost me more I requested a call back to be told that I had had too many call backs! I had to ring them again and eventually got the email address to request my policy was cancelled.

This was far too much hard work. I dread to think what they would have been like if I'd actually had an accident. My advice is steer well clear!

They gave me an extremely low quote when I had not passed my test and so I went with them but when I passed my test they gave me a quote which was 50% higher than most other companies when I explained this the turned nasty and tried charging me a get out fee but it was not possible to stay, none of this was explained, I agree stay well clear

Worst Service I Have Ever Had, Do Not Use Them

Please if i can give you any advice,

DO NOT USE THESE GUYS

They are a broker which effectively means the small print and confusion they put to you means actually when you come to cancel a policy they just take you for the most of the amount anyway.

I used the policy for three months and then decided to cancel as i sold my camper, normally with most policies when you pay monthly, you would expect to pay a month in advance and maybe a cancellation fee. My total policy was £237 of which i was paying about £25 per month, so in theory paid £75 of the policy, i was expecting maybe £30-£40 to cancel.

I subsequently went on holiday and then returned opening the first letter confirming the policy had been cancelled and telling me i owed £98 and if i did not pay in 10 days i would be sent to a debit recovery agency, then opened the next letter from the debit recovery agency say i owed £123 (£25 surcharge for the pleasure of not paying in 10 days), when i phoned to query the amount with the insurance company they took my payment of £98 and knocked off the £25, but the could have knocked off a further £25 if it had not gone to the recovery agency!!! They absolutely baffled me with explaining they are a broker, got a refund of ££120 from the insurance however because of a credit agreement to pay monthly i still owed them the £98.

Anyway in summary these guys have the worst customer service i have ever spoken to and i would not recommend using them to anyone, be warned.

I did not realize Mr Turpin also worked in insurance!!!!!

I have worked in the insurance for 20 years and have never been subjected to such terrible unprofessional selling of insurance. Full details of policy not pointed out to customer until cancellation of policy!.

We asked various questions when taking out the insurance and true direct answers were avoided.

The Customer Service Duty Manager would NOT PROVIDE his name when asked, obviously embarrassed of his employer's working practice!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY - AWFUL EXPERIENCE - ............ YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !

Beware The Small Print

Took out a learner car policy for a year at a cost of nearly £500, after 5 months I passed my test and had to change my policy. They refunded less than £40 for the remaining 7 months unused insurance but quoted me over £3000 to insure my £500 car for the next year. It was them that assured me this was the best way to proceed. BEWARE THE SMALL PRINT

Terrible Serivce

Rang to cancel my insurance as I sold by car but it was not processed by them.

When I noticed payment was still being taken a few weeks later, I contacted them to ask why.

Very snotty and unhelpful on the phone. They agreed that if I sent proof of sale of my car they would back-date my cancellation.

Have sent this 3 times via email over the past 3 weeks and they are now just ignoring my emails and not replying.

Will never use this company again and recommend that no one else does.

Shocking Cancellation Fee's

This is the first time I have insured with HIC and I can tell you it will be the last. I was happy with the service until I had to speak to them again. I have brought a new vehicle and unfortunately my insurer would not it because it was not modified. I was told I ither cancel it and with the cancellation fee and loss of Commission it would be £180 that I'd loose or cancel and replace it with them being a broker. So of course not wanting to lose £180 I spoke to a right snotty little girl that was annoyed with me because I didn't have the answers to her questions (she had them in front of her). She muted her mic multiple times to which I had to ask if she was still there. After all that she said she couldn't cover my vehicle. So I was back to stage 1 with the ridiculous cancellation fee's where I was told that i should have read my documents, which I would have if I ever received them! (Must have got Lost in the post ay......)

Lying And Overcharging Seems To Be "policy"

Had a policy with this company for years. My car's gearbox died on me so I sourced a replacement car and called to have the old car removed and the new car added. During the call I was told the previous car's policy had been cancelled (the adviser told me he would walk down to the cancellations team as this would be the fastest option and put me on hold for 20mins) and the new policy was set up.

After a few months I realised he hadn't cancelled the policy. The only reason I noticed at all was I kept going overdrawn every month and getting charged by HIC for not making a payment. Eventually I realised I was indeed making a payment to them, but there was a second payment they were attempting to take was causing the problem (and a £20 charge to boot).

After contacting them I was told it was their "policy" to require a cancellation request by email and they needed proof the vehicle was no longer mine. The problem is, the car is still mine. It has been sat at the garage waiting for me to save the amount I need for a gearbox repair. So I am now out the £200~ wasted on insuring a car that can't move and is on private land.

AVOID. I dread to think what lies they will tell people when it comes to actually making a claim.

I am cancelling both policies ASAP, going elsewhere and making a complaint to the financial ombudsman.

Horrid Process

The process is so complicated and unclear on no claims that I am unfortunately cancelling the policy after only 3 Days!! I loose my deposit.

Disgusting Customer Service And False Claims Made Against Me

Herts Insurance have done nothing but mess me around from day 1. Disgusting service and pure incompetence. A claim was put against my vehicle that was nothing to do with my vehicle and even though they had the details of the actual driver which was nothing to do with me or my policy, still decided to proceed. After 8 months of being pushed from pillar to post and apparently clearing it up i then tried to cancel my policy, they said i still had a claim against my policy!!!! USELESS!!!! They had issued me with compensation previously for all the trouble they had caused me (£50, great!) after overcharging me for my insurance anyway due to the false claim, not to mention the small fortune in calls i had to make to chase the issue and then tell me it still hasn't been amended at all. The operators have attitude problems and do not want to help you at all. Quick enough to take your money but do absolutely nothing you'd expect from an insurer. Awful, just awful. DO NOT USE HERTS INSURANCE!!!
