A New Film This One, (depp) Plays Frank, An Americ
A new film this one, (depp) plays frank, an american maths teacher who meets a seductive stranger ( Jolie) on a train in france, unwittingly frank has been chosen by Elise (jolie) as she is being followed by the authorites.
thus begins a cloak and daggers journy in and around Venice.
This film is quite slick in places, with some great twist's, and all in all was quite enjoyable, quite well written, with strong acting from both Depp and Jolie.
the downside for me was trying to peel Depp away from his role as Jack sparrow in the pirates franchise, as in the film he has a coatee, should have ost that for this film.
all in all this film is very good, keeps rolling along at a good pace, and not to many complicated plot lines for each character.
'the Tourist' Is Not A Film That Would Ever Compet
'The Tourist' is not a film that would ever compete for a place in my top 100. A spy thriller with inept gangsters, keystone cops interpol, worst-kept-secret agents, and the continually thwarted over-eager police farce.
Great location and cinematography with almost sepia toned vistas of Venice, but a restrained and watered down screenplay. The cringeable twist at the end is so full of holes it played out as a bad knock knock joke.I suppose it was OK, but would have been better if they abandoned trying to secure a '12' rating, and scripted more realistic language and included a lot more action for this genre of film. It wasn't helped by the bunch of rowdy teenagers we had to endure throwing buckets of popcorn at each other at the front of the cinema. They didn't seem to find it particularly riveting either.
Every pouting closeup of Jolie looked like she was advertising that purple ointment we used as kids to relieve nasty lip infections. Depp's straight 'math' teacher had a frustrated Captain Jack Sparrow on the verge of bursting out, but he managed to keep himself under restraint for most of the film.
