Breakfast

The Angel had been recommended to us by friends who would meet us there for a Sunday breakfast. First impressions of the place are excellent and we were warmly welcomed by the Dining Room manager. This really is where it all ended. The coffee machine didn't work and no member of staff seemed to have realised that it hadn't even been switched on - and when it was switched on it flooded everywhere. The DIY toaster was a domestic model and totally inadequate for the number of people who had been staying overnight. There was only a single (rather stale and certainly not freshly baked) croissant remaining for those choosing 'Continental' Breakfast; no pain-au-chocolat or fresh rolls. Cooked breakfast was however plentiful and on a self-service basis. The plate-clearing service was, if anything, almost too attentive but certainly polite. I don't expect to rush back to The Angel for breakfast.

However they offer a week-day Carvery for £5 per head which is obviously good value and we might try that one day.

Good Food, Service Slack.

We arrived here, and were greeted by the friendly receptionist. Our room was very good, lovely big comfy bed, and fluffy pillows. Went down for our meal, and were told that the waitress would come to our table and take our order. 20 minutes later, my husband had to go and order at the bar, as the waitress didn`t have time! The same thing happened throughout the evening. The food tho, was very, very nice.

In the morning, we went down for breakfast, and were told that we would be shown to a table, we waited for 15 minutes, so went and found our own. Whilst helping myself to the buffet breakfast, there were no eggs, then, from out of the kitchen came a young lady wearing chefs trousers and a fleecy jacket. (not that clean either) she plonked a fried egg on my plate. We had nearly finished our breakfast, when the waitress finally arrived, offering us tea and coffee!!

All in all, a good experience, except for the lack of staff, and service.

Poor Food Quality

I went to the Angel with my family for a meal, i ordered a salad for starter and found a spoon in my salad! The staff gave us complimentary drinks. when we went back a few weeks later again ordering the salad, i was just about to eat it and noticed there was a caterpillar in it!!!! i complained about this an did not get an apology, i got told to go an sit back down an that someone would come an sort it out. Eventually when the manager came over he explained that they do not wash the salad! it comes pre washed in a packet and they dont wash it again. i thought this was disgusting and we soon left.

I would not recommend this as a good place to go as the food quality and hygiene is very poor.
