Not Bad Food Rubbish Service
Would not go here again the staff don't seem to care that they have disgruntled customers which just adds to the problem

Arrogant Establishment
Never in my life have I had to deal with such a smug establishment. I requested a simple evening do in mid January 2014 for 100 guests. I requested a simple buffet and drinks for guests but they won't even entertain us unless we pay £30 per head for the buffet. Amazing seeing many establishments are struggling that time of year. We are Chester locals but obviously they do not want business on possibly the slowest period of the year. Ie week before most peoples payday and after Christmas. Find it appalling that they are quoting we are not the Village Hall and have great views. I would rather my money go to an establishment that actually caters to the wishes of the consumer rather than their own ego. Well done Red House.. you are losing quite a few locals

Lovely Views And Good Food
The red house looks out onto the river Dee and the chester meadows which in summer is a view not to be missed. The food is a little expensive however it's memorable and presented very nicely. The staff all look the part and are very polite. It gets busy so sometimes booking is necessary which means popping in isn't always an option. Parking is also a little difficult, it is located on Sandy Lane where people park on the road, but if that is busy you may have to drive a little distance to find somewhere. I'm a vegetarian and I find that sometimes the menu doesn't provide the largest variety for me, but my meat eating family love it. The drinks menu is expensive which is a downer if you are only going for a lunch as it adds to the bill quite dramatically however soft drinks are reasonably priced. The food is always interesting so having eaten there you won't forget the experience, and with the view taken into account, it really is an experience which if you're in the area, you shouldn't miss. Before going there I would warn that the standard clientele are very well dressed - I went once in scruffy clothing and felt very out of place.

The Red House: Outmoded Attitudes, Disappointing Food
I was attracted by the modern presentation of the Red House at Cheshire Oaks, and by the board outside advertising fish, chips and mushy peas "better than Rick Stein's"
The first disappointment on entering was the realisation that the Red House still subscribe to the very old-fashioned practice of consigning the lone female customer to the cramped table at the back next to the lavatories (I was escorted past several available and more appealing small tables to get there.)
As for the food - if I were Rick Stein, I would sue: the fish was very indifferent, and bulked out with rather oily batter. The chips were described as "famous" - not sure why, as the only remarkable thing about them was the stinginess of the portion. They were in a small dish of their own on the plate - not sure if that was pretention or just so they would take up a bit more room. Full marks for pretentious presentation though: I would have thought this very hard to pull off with mushy peas, but they managed it (moulded into a neat little rectangle and hidden under the fish) Why for god's sake?
And the tea was weak - if you must have fashionably oversized pots and cups, you are going to need more than one small tea bag. Next time I fancy "iconic" British fish and chips, I'll be going to Harry Ramsdens.

Staff!!!
Recently went to the Cheshire oaks version, deffinatly not recomended. Food overpriced for its poor quality and the staff dont seem to realise they have to work for a living. Male waiter was inaudiable and rude, i dont believe in his training anybody taught him how to smile or how to generally communicate with people. When we were there we seen him joking around with the kitchen staff while another girl was running around the place with a smile! The level of professionalism from this guy was unbelievable. i receive better customer service when i go macdonalds!!!!

My Husband Took Me To The Red House For A Mother's
My husband took me to the Red House for a Mother's Day dinner. We have been four times before and have always enjoyed the food, but this time it did live up to our expectations or the description on the set menu. My starter, mushroom and goats cheese tart, was very dry and the goats cheese had a hard dry crust and I could not cut it. My main was meant to be spinach tagliatelle with seared salmon; what I got was plain tagliatelle with two spinach leaves and dried up salmon. My husband's pork fillet turned into a pork chop. I asked the waiter about my meal; he went away and returned to say he would get me a replacement, but we were half way through by this time, so I declined. I noticed another customer was given exactly the same meal as me, so no improvement there. The waiter promised "wonderful" desserts, but ther were ordinary too. We again told the waiter the food was mediocre and we were disappointed, he apologised, but did nothing to redress in the form or a reduction on the bill, which we have found to be normal practice. The management should listen to customer comments when they are made and improve consistency....they cannot succeed if the food does not live up to expectation, no matter if the postion and views are excellent.

We have been to the Red House a number of times. The setting is fantastic but sadly it fails to live up to expectations.
The started was godd but maincourse was very average, with tough steak and overdone fish. I commented about the steak to be told they would 'let chef know'.
When moving onto desert and ordering a bottle of wine off the menu, we were told they would only sell it by the glass, which of course is 50% more expensive. We queried this and raised a comment about the meal to the Manager, to be met with an indifferent attitude.

Went today (Sunday) for the very first time and the food, the service and the view across the river were all absolutely magnificent. It was faultless from beginning (with a bottle of Jansz fizz) to the king scallop and black pudding starter, The Redhouse Burger with foie gras and the amazing Epicurean of Desserts! Can't wait to go again and again and again....
