Dissapointed
We were hurried out at 4-40 on a Sunday, clearing table while still drinking and removing cushions from seating, like they were in a hurry to close. Ordered a coffee only to be told they have switched the machine off, meal tepid under cooked roast veg but potatoes were cooked to a crisp needless to say won't return or ecommend to others.

Gone Down Hill
Took my wife and 92 year old mother to see if it was as good as it was last time we went about 6 months ago.
I'm sorry to say we were disappointed. My mother is intimidated by a large plate of food and we asked for a child's portion. Aparrently you can only have a child's portion off the children's menu which is basically child's food. OK so can we have a Gammon meal but with less of the non Gammon items. Off she went to ask the chef and came back with message, no it comes as it is.
Well thanks for the consideration chef! (What is wrong with chef's, they're not gods)
Food quality was OK but nowhere near like it was peviously.
Won't be visiting for food again, but maybe for beer as Greene King beers are my favourite and they do keep them well.

Recent Change For The Worse
Took my large family for sunday lunch to this pub I have been using for over forty years! Recent change of licensee ! Food was awful! My beef was so tough I couldn’t cut it with a knife! The vegetables were undercooked for all of us! I complained and was given a choice of another meal! I chose pork which was not much of a meal and vegetables also so hard I couldn’t cut through them! My family were too embarrassed to complain but all agreed a rubbish meal! We left before risking deserts! I later found on the bill I was charged £15. 00 for the beef-which was inedible! Don’t bother visiting until a change of cook takes place!

This Has To Be One Of The Best Pubs I've Been To. 10/10.
Fantastic food at very reasonable prices served by friendly staff. The landlord seemed a nice guy who went out of his way to talk to people. The whole atmosphere is one of an excellently run family pub.

Great Food And Wine - Well Worth A Visit!
For those who haven't been to the Red Lion recently, or were perhaps put off by previous visits, please do take the time to go back. The food has improved dramatically since it changed hands before Christmas! The pub now serves a good selection of quality menu options along with some great wines. The atmosphere has also improved and the service is informal and friendly. I live locally and have eaten there on several occasions recently - I haven't been disappointed with any of the meals I have ordered.

A Pound For Gravy! Extraordinary...
Today we had four of us had lunch at The Red Lion Sturmer. Very disappointing. Two had the roast beef which was overlooked and dry. The Yorkshire puddings were good but the roast potatoes were dry too with a odd taste. Two has the roast pork which was good, however the vegetables let it down again. It was came with a small serving of gravy so we asked for some more. We were given a very small jug half full and when the bill came they had added £1.00 for the gravy. Their explanation was that it was very precious. Hmmm don't really understand that one. We will not return.

Staff That Really Couldn't Care, Poor Food & Overp
Staff That Really Couldn't Care, Poor Food & Overpriced!
Having been a regular at the Red Lion prior to the Restaurant closing, I decided to return and try out the latest offerings from the new management, which I believe came into effect June/July 2010.
Unfortunately, this was far from a pleasant experience.
Having arrived at the pub, we decided on drinks and sat down to choose what we wanted to eat. Prices here are high, even for a village pub. You're looking at around £9-£12 for a main meal, £3.50-£4.50 for a starter.
Having read the literature around the place, they market themselves as "a friendly pub & restaurant" offering a "tempting menu of freshly prepared, home cooked lunches and evening meals".
Now when they say this, it gives you the impression of completely made on the premises, fresh food. This doesn't seem to actually be the case.
Brie and Cranberry starter, around £3.50, was poorly prepared and undercooked. The breaded Brie is quite obviously bought it, and frozen. Towards the end of our meals, I found 2 hairs in the food. When the waitress came to collect the meals, she asked if everything was okay, I mentioned I was not happy because of my findings - yet voluntarily - nothing was said by the staff on this matter throughout the course of the meal.
Moving on to mains, we decided on the Hunters Chicken £9.25 and Lasagne (around £8.25). Our meals came out, with overcooked chips, lasagne that was far from fresh and certainly didn't taste up to the cost of £8.25. Hunters Chicken equally disappointing, having only been able to stomach the chicken, leaving the remainder of the meal.
Going to pay for the meal, the lady behind the counter began to work out the price. I told them I would not be prepared to pay for the starter that had had the hair in. She then proceeded to tell me "It was fluff". From my point of view, I couldn't have cared what it was, it simply should not have been in my food. She then went on to say that as I had eaten a majority of my food, then they weren't really prepared to refund it!
After a further 10 minutes of arguments about this starter, she continued to say "we're not a professional restaurant" and "you're expecting silver service" - in a very confrontational manner.
Needless to say, we were not going to stay for desserts.
For a first visit, this was an extremely appalling way to be treated and shall definitely not be visiting again, nor would I recommend to anyone to do so. They are rude, obnoxious, unable to take criticisms, and cook poor meals, for an extortionate price. Don't waste your time, or your money here.
Could not agree more. I had a similar experience added to which, on my visit a women whose infant would not stop bawling seemed powerless to do anything about it.Appalling place.
