The Oriental Museum Opened In 1950 And Now Part Of

The Oriental Museum opened in 1950 and now part of the historical University of Durham, it is popular with students, researchers and other visitors alike. With extensive and beautiful collections from China, Egypt, India, the Islamic world and Japan (and others) there will be something for everyone when you visit. The Museum also boasts a lovely shop (where you can purchases books, postcards and traditional Oriental items) and friendly staff.

The Museum, though specialized, may be a little small for some people's tastes. Also, although the Museum often organises interesting and varied exhibitions and talks by outside speakers, there may be little for younger members of the family to become involved in, in terms of hands-on interaction.

In short, the Oriental Museum is one-of-a-kind and I would recommend it highly if you are lucky enough to visit the beautiful Durham City and wish to investigate something new, interesting and exotic.
