Best Software Buy
Software does what I expected it to. It was easy to set up and create all my credit card/ISAs/pension/mortgage accounts and set up the categories and schedule transfers between them that match our bank statements. Importing worked well from all accounts, picking custom fields from a csv file on import and allowing manual mapping was nice. The reports are excellent and the pretty charts a bonus :)

Marvellous! I bought version 3 of the software almost immediately after a 1 day trial. Loved the ease at which I could import version 2 files. Cloud facility is a bonus for enabling two separate computers to access the same files - better than networking, as they don't even have to be in the same building.

Disappointed
I thought I had found the natural successor the 'Money'. I ran the programme for a full year and persisted in trying to use all its facilities. In the end I gave up because I still could not enter my stocks and shares and the help/advice was really no help. My conclusion is that this is a clever piece of kit written by accountants for accountants but that is not me!

Obtaining security prices for your selected shares is dependant on mainly two factors.
1) The availability of the information on the external data feed website you have selected - this may or may not populate the security.
2) The use of firewalls and antivirus software that prevents our software from connecting to the website to obtain the price information - an aggressive firewall will block our software (specially Norton)
Neither of these problems are related to our software.

I have found Banktree easy to use and intuitive. Information is clearly displayed and easily accessible. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND it for anyone wishing to keep control of their finances.

I have been a member of Review for quite some time and this is the very first occasion that I have left a comment. That should underline how incensed I feel about the lack of support offered by Banktree.
I fail to see why you have seen it necessary to make a specific point about Banktree offering free updates. I would be surprised if you have ever been asked to pay for an internet software update from any company, I certainly have not.
In my experience all updates are offered free and the customer is normally informed when an update is available. Not so in the case of Bankree, where the customer is left with the responsibility of checking for updates on a regular basis or not having any at all.
Not much proactive support there.

Excellent Replacement For Ms Money
I used MS Money for a long while and when it was stopped I tried their new version which I did not like. I have tried several other makes which were of a poor quality, then used my spreadsheet until I found Bank tree. This I like very much and it is similar to MS Money but just a bit better. A very good buy for the price and so easy to use
Recommended But Not Unreservedly. Probs With Reconciliations
Like many others I have migrated from Quicken which served me well, both with club accounts, where categories were required, and my personal finance where they are not. Windows 8 seemed to put paid to Quicken.
My main problem is with downloading from my online bank. Quicken had a 'download' button which would take me straight to my bank, I'd go through the download process, then up would come a 'match' screen for me to tick off against my existing entries on Quicken or add in new entries. A simple process that would take minutes, obviating the need for paper bank statements - I haven't had them for years.
BankTree is hopeless on this; if I download to existing entries I just end up with duplicates (ticking or unticking the 'duplicate' box doesn't seem to make any difference)which I then have to delete then manually mark the BankTree entry as cleared. This is so tedious I have stopped downloading, I just look at the bank's online entries on screen, mark BankTree entries as cleared or otherwise, then reconcile BankTree with bank on an adding machine! Just as well I have two screens.
A smaller gripe is that I have to have categories, like it or not.
When you download / import your bank details for the months concerned on the import screen check the option for check duplicates. This will then check the date and amount for the existing transactions. It will give you the option of importing the record or not. You will probably have both the schedule transactions and the imported records for the same transaction you need to delete the imported record. keeping a single record for each transaction.

Has Bank Tree Been Hijacked?
I have been running Bank Tree now for several years without problem and it has done everything I needed to track several accounts.
Today I asked it to check for an update and my virus program Bitdefender blocked the webpage as "unsafe". It does thesame for any page from the domain www.banktree.co.uk

If you are having problem with accessing the banktree website you need to contact bitdefender for blocking the website. If we had the full Bitdefender product name you are using version etc we are quite happy to contact them on your behalf.
We have run extensite antivirus and anti-malware on the banktree domain and ALL software that is available for download. And have not found any problems.

After looking around and trying other finance software i was very pleased to find one that worked! I am very impressed with BankTree and have recommended it to others already.
